There have been conflicting reports surrounding Meghan Markle’s
participation in the Invictus Games closing ceremony. Initially, there were
reports indicating her exclusion from the event. However, recent information has
emerged, revealing Meghan’s intention to travel to Germany on Monday, despite
not receiving an official invitation.
It appears that she is determined to chart her own course, driven in part by a
desire not to be overshadowed by the positive reception that Princess
Catherine received during her recent visit to France. Meghan’s decision to fly
to Europe marks a departure from her previous absence from the Invictus
Games.
While she missed both the opening ceremony and the second day of the annual
event in Dusseldorf, she has now chosen to join her husband, Prince Harry, in
Europe and stay with him at a luxurious hotel for the remainder of the games.
It’s important to note that Meghan won’t have any formal role in the closing
ceremony.
During the opening ceremony, Prince Harry playfully teased a rivalry with
Meghan, joking about the newfound competition between them and the teams they
were supporting. Meghan had recently discovered her Nigerian ancestry, which
she shared on her Spotify podcast before it was canceled.
This development comes as the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, made a
striking appearance in France to support England in their rugby game against
Argentina. Both the Prince and Princess of Wales are currently in France
attending separate games. Kate, known for her love of the sport, was named the
patron of the Rugby Football Union last year and displayed her enthusiasm by
singing along with the national anthem before the highly anticipated
match.
She also charmed officials with her warm demeanor and tasteful outfit, which
included an elegant blazer paired with a complementing necklace. Her attire
was impeccably tailored to fit her body without being too tight, and her
posture was impeccable, with well-pressed and fresh-looking clothing, perfect
sleeve length, shoulder width, and overall fit and length.
It’s worth noting that Kate took over the patron role from Prince Harry, who
had to relinquish the position after stepping back from his royal duties in
2020. However, Meghan reportedly felt frustrated by the contrast between her
own situation and Kate’s overseas trip with her husband. In response, her PR
team suggested that Prince William and Catherine had undermined Harry’s
Invictus Games launch.
It’s essential to clarify that the scheduling of major events like the Rugby
World Cup and the Invictus Games is determined years in advance by regulatory
bodies and is not influenced by the Royal Family.
Meghan’s recent decision to join the Invictus Games seems somewhat last
minute, given earlier reports that she wouldn’t be attending. Nevertheless,
she appears to have made a spontaneous entrance to the event, possibly driven
by a desire to maintain her public presence while Princess Catherine garners
attention on her own terms.
